Chapman & Hall/CRC Monographs and Research Notes in Mathematics
About the Book Series
This series is designed to capture new developments and summarize what is known over the entire field of mathematics, both pure and applied. It will include a broad range of monographs and research notes on current and developing topics that will appeal to academics, graduate students, and practitioners. Interdisciplinary books appealing not only to the mathematical community, but also to engineers, physicists, and computer scientists are encouraged.
This series will maintain the highest editorial standards, publishing well-developed monographs as well as research notes on new topics that are final, but not yet refined into a formal monograph. The notes are meant to be a rapid means of publication for current material where the style of exposition reflects a developing topic.
Optimization and Differentiation
1st Edition
By Simon Serovajsky
October 13, 2017
Optimization and Differentiation is an introduction to the application of optimization control theory to systems described by nonlinear partial differential equations. As well as offering a useful reference work for researchers in these fields, it is also suitable for graduate students of optimal ...
Variational-Hemivariational Inequalities with Applications
1st Edition
By Mircea Sofonea, Stanislaw Migorski
October 13, 2017
This research monograph represents an outcome of the cross-fertilization between nonlinear functional analysis and mathematical modelling, and demonstrates its application to solid and contact mechanics. Based on authors’ original results, it introduces a general fixed point principle and its ...
Willmore Energy and Willmore Conjecture
1st Edition
Edited
By Magdalena D. Toda
October 13, 2017
This book is the first monograph dedicated entirely to Willmore energy and Willmore surfaces as contemporary topics in differential geometry. While it focuses on Willmore energy and related conjectures, it also sits at the intersection between integrable systems, harmonic maps, Lie groups, calculus...
Computation with Linear Algebraic Groups
1st Edition
By Willem Adriaan de Graaf
August 11, 2017
Designed as a self-contained account of a number of key algorithmic problems and their solutions for linear algebraic groups, this book combines in one single text both an introduction to the basic theory of linear algebraic groups and a substantial collection of useful algorithms. Computation with...
Noncommutative Deformation Theory
1st Edition
By Eivind Eriksen, Olav Arnfinn Laudal, Arvid Siqveland
April 25, 2017
Noncommutative Deformation Theory is aimed at mathematicians and physicists studying the local structure of moduli spaces in algebraic geometry. This book introduces a general theory of noncommutative deformations, with applications to the study of moduli spaces of representations of associative ...
Spectral and Scattering Theory for Second Order Partial Differential Operators
1st Edition
By Kiyoshi Mochizuki
April 24, 2017
The book is intended for students of graduate and postgraduate level, researchers in mathematical sciences as well as those who want to apply the spectral theory of second order differential operators in exterior domains to their own field. In the first half of this book, the classical results of ...
Elements of Quasigroup Theory and Applications
1st Edition
By Victor Shcherbacov
March 17, 2017
Understanding Interaction is a book that explores the interaction between people and technology, in the broader context of the relations between the human made and the natural environments. It is not just about digital technologies – our computers, smart phones, the Internet – but all our ...
Bounds for Determinants of Linear Operators and their Applications
1st Edition
By Michael Gil'
February 22, 2017
This book deals with the determinants of linear operators in Euclidean, Hilbert and Banach spaces. Determinants of operators give us an important tool for solving linear equations and invertibility conditions for linear operators, enable us to describe the spectra, to evaluate the multiplicities of...
Actions and Invariants of Algebraic Groups
2nd Edition
By Walter Ricardo Ferrer Santos, Alvaro Rittatore
December 20, 2016
Actions and Invariants of Algebraic Groups, Second Edition presents a self-contained introduction to geometric invariant theory starting from the basic theory of affine algebraic groups and proceeding towards more sophisticated dimensions." Building on the first edition, this book provides an ...
Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics
1st Edition
By Scott Corry
December 01, 2016
Structured as a dialogue between a mathematician and a physicist, Symmetry and Quantum Mechanics unites the mathematical topics of this field into a compelling and physically-motivated narrative that focuses on the central role of symmetry. Aimed at advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate ...
Iterative Methods without Inversion
1st Edition
By Anatoly Galperin
October 26, 2016
Iterative Methods without Inversion presents the iterative methods for solving operator equations f(x) = 0 in Banach and/or Hilbert spaces. It covers methods that do not require inversions of f (or solving linearized subproblems). The typical representatives of the class of methods discussed are ...
Analytical Methods for Kolmogorov Equations
2nd Edition
By Luca Lorenzi
August 24, 2016
The second edition of this book has a new title that more accurately reflects the table of contents. Over the past few years, many new results have been proven in the field of partial differential equations. This edition takes those new results into account, in particular the study of nonautonomous...
