This applies to US customers who would like to place tax-exempt orders on Routledge.com and have a valid tax exemption certificate.
How can I place a tax-exempt order?
You can either:
- Place your order directly through our Customer Service team using our Contact Form, or
- Request that your Routledge.com account is set up as tax-exempt before ordering.
Setting up a tax-exempt account on Routledge.com
Step 1: Create an account
- Create an account using your email address.
- Guest accounts cannot be used for tax-exempt purchases.
Step 2: Set up your billing address
- Go to Address Book in your account.
- Click Add Address and create your billing address.
- Ensure the state is covered by your tax-exemption certificate.
Step 3: Check your details
- Make sure the following information matches:
- Your name and address as shown on your credit card statement.
- Your company name, exactly as it appears on the tax-exemption certificate.
Step 4: Contact Customer Service
Send the following information to our Customer Service team using our Contact Form
- The email address used to create your account.
- Your billing address details.
- A copy of your tax-exemption certificate.

What if tax is showing on my order?
- Before placing your order: If your account has already been made tax-exempt and tax still appears, contact Customer Service using our Contact Form before placing your order.
- If you have already placed your order: If tax has been applied to an order you’ve already placed, contact Customer Service using our Contact Form for assistance.
