Geopolitics in the Shatter Belts

About the Book Series

The proposed three books will show the survival and adaptation strategies of non-superpower states located in regions of geopolitical instability (Shatter Belts) to changes in the global balance of power. The aim of the series is to show the diversity of these strategies and to define the geopolitical, historical, cultural and demographic conditions for creating adaptation policies by selected states. The subsequent volumes are devoted to the Baltic states; Romania and Moldova; Kazakhstan.

The series responds to the challenges of changes in the global balance of power from the level of behavior of medium and small states. The main scientific studies in the field of geopolitics, political geography and international relations in recent years have focused on the rivalry between global powers. This rivalry brings changes in the behavior of non-power states, which are actually confronted with fears about survival, maintaining borders or national identity. Their survival and adaptation strategies vary depending on their geopolitical location, and those countries located in the Shatter Belts face particular challenges.

The series provides answers to very current questions: to what extent will global change be the result of activist policies of medium and small countries that demonstrate determination and ingenuity in adapting to geopolitical changes. It brings the reader closer to the threats and problems of countries located in the Shatter Belts. It will allow the reader to understand how inter-power rivalry affects the behavior of medium and small states located in geopolitically unstable regions of the world.
