Global Marxist Thought

About the Book Series

The objective of this book series is to provide a forum for anti- and decolonial thought within the Marxist tradition. Marxist theorizing has seen a resurgent popularity in the academy lately, particularly among early career scholars. Yet many of the early career scholars who are bringing marxism back to the fore of theoretical conversations in the humanities and social sciences are developing marxist thought with Asian, African and Latin American experiences as their primary concern. This integration of marxist and decolonial thought is at the cutting edge of the critical humanities and social sciences and yet, scholarship in this critically important vein is often marginalised in journals, publishers, and other spaces dedicated to mainline marxist or postcolonial perspectives despite its overwhelming popularity and resonance.

While there are several book series and publishers devoted to marxist thought or to postcolonial thought, there is no space in the current publishing landscape that provides a forum solely for anti-colonial thought in the marxist tradition. It’s surprising that such a forum does not exist given that marxism has seen a great resurgence in popularity in recent years, and that its most vibrant articulations have been in Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia. This proposed series is not solely of relevance to the Global South but will be of great interest to Global North scholars while also creating a more vibrant conversation in global marxist thought. It will accomplish these objectives through teaching global audiences about Asian, African, Caribbean and Latin American perspectives on Marxist thought. This learning from South to North will also serve to create a more vibrant intellectual conversation among marxist thinkers around the world and will likely influence non-marxist postcolonial thought as well.
