About the Book Series
The speed of transformation of countries in the Global South has quickly imposed, in recent years, new priorities in the urban agenda of this part of the world. In particular, the controversial relationship between the loss of local/regional identity and modernisation is increasingly becoming a matter of great concern especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America. In these contexts, new challenges, such as fast urbanization, migrations, technological innovation, health crisis, and climate change, are seriously threatening, in some cases, the survival as such of the traces of the past, especially the urban or rural heritage, or broadly speaking, the tangible and intangible dimensions of local cultures. Elsewhere, local cultures are persisting and adapting to new conditions, producing innovative and alternative approaches to planning and design that deserves attention.
Different and more suitable analytical frameworks are needed to capture current urban transformations, risks and emerging approaches to sustainability.
The series, which is grounded in the theory and practice of urban planning and design, is open to cross-disciplinary contributions and will welcome books on the Global South that deal with:
- Culture and sustainable urban and rural development;
- Governance, communities and heritage conservation
- Climate-resilient places, culture and heritage;
- Urban heritage management and conservation: theory and applications.
- Urban design, cultural adaptation and social inclusion;
