Political Theorists Beyond the Canon

About the Book Series

The series, Political Theorists beyond the Canon, endeavors to portray political theorists who do not conform to the prevailing mainstream of political theory and are often not perceived as politically relevant. These individuals, who have been classified as thinkers, emerged from the discipline of political science yet were subsequently either forgotten or disregarded. They have been firmly established within adjacent disciplines or have maintained an independent philosophical stance, thereby ensuring their continued presence in academic discourse. The emphasis is on thinkers of the twentieth century, although the potential for including thinkers from earlier and later periods is not discounted.

The series fosters the originality of thought and its relevance to the major issues of political theory, especially those that are of particular concern in the present moment. These include the foundations and foundational contexts of democracy, the relationship between economics and politics in a globalized world, the role of the individual in society, and related topics.

The internal structure of the respective chapters follows a loose scheme. First, a concise biographical and theoretical framing is provided. Second, the central theses are presented. Third, the reception history is delineated. Finally, the text identifies specific features and areas of relevance that merit further research and discussion.
