Regional Innovations for Sustainable Communities

About the Book Series

2020 was a historical year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the inter-related crises that came with it. The year was characterized by health crises, economic recession, political upheaval, and above all, a perceived crisis of leadership in many parts of the world. Two years later, the repercussions of this pandemic are still being felt in communities globally. The combination of these crises has affected communities and exposed vulnerabilities that result from unsustainable policies focused on promoting macroeconomic growth at the expense of addressing socio-economic and ecological risk. Regional integration has contributed prominently to these processes.

This moment of crisis is also a moment of reflection, offering significant opportunity for learning and solidarity. Building on the work of the Consortium for Comparative Research on Regional Integration and Social Cohesion-Elevation (RISC-RISE), this book series will examine the mechanisms through which models of development and regional integration contribute to these vulnerabilities and how these processes may be altered to address them. It will promote innovative solutions to socioeconomic and ecological vulnerability in communities through region-building in different parts of the world, and will study the human and environmental impacts of regional integration and highlight citizen perspectives in region-building processes. This cross-regional comparative series will include established and emerging scholars who are engaged with socio-ecological issues in different parts of the world.
